The Bairns' Guide is a small, independently-run directory of Edinburgh & Lothians pubs and their policies on children. This page explains what information we collect and why.

What we collect

Pub suggestions: when you suggest a pub, we store the pub details you enter (name, area, policy, notes). We don't require or collect your name or contact details to submit a suggestion.
Ratings: star ratings are recorded against the pub, along with a marker saved only in your own browser to stop repeat voting. We don't tie ratings to any personal identity.
Mailing list: if you sign up for updates, we store the email address you provide.
Contact form: if you contact us, we store your message and any name or email you choose to include.

What we don't collect

We don't use advertising trackers or analytics cookies, and we don't sell or share any information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Where data is stored

App data is stored using Supabase, our database provider. Suggestion and rating data is publicly viewable on the site by design (that's the point of the app). Mailing list and contact form entries are kept private and are only accessible to the person who runs the site.

Your choices

You can ask us to remove your email from the mailing list, or delete a message or suggestion you submitted, at any time using the Contact Us form on the site.

Children's privacy

This app is about pubs' policies toward children — it isn't directed at children itself, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
